Everyone please plan to go to the above Hellen Jo show, because her work is really potent and funny and I think under-appreciated. http://bit.ly/1118Yya

Kelly Sue DeConnick is the writer of both Captain Marvel and Avengers Assemble, and Captain Marvel is an Avenger who has been featured in the Avengers Assemble ensemble. So it’s not entirely surprising that the books are crossing over starting this week, with the one-shot Avengers: The Enemy Within, on sale now….We talked with DeConnick about “The Enemy Within”…and the upcoming Infinity tie-ins in to both Captain Marvel and Avengers Assemble, starting in August. http://bit.ly/128IoX5

After teasing fans for a few months, Amy Reeder and Brand Montclare’s Rocket Girl is go for launch…a “teenage cop from a high-tech future” who’s sent back to 1986…“As she pieces together the clues, she discovers that the ‘future’ — an alternate reality version of 2013 and the place she calls home — shouldn’t exist at all”…I spoke with Montclare and Reeder about Rocket Girl, using Kickstarter to finance their creator-owned works and much more. http://bit.ly/18hL2Lp

There’s an awful lot of interesting pieces, very personal pieces from Katie Green over on the Lighter Than My Shadow blog. The book is released by Cape in October this year, but it’s already shaping up to be something rather special…there’s a natural, honest voice, gentle, familiar, and true to Green’s work. That it’s a very close subject for Green gives her words and images import and strength and I can already imagine the emotional impact the book’s going to deliver. http://bit.ly/18hN5Pu

If you love the Lauren Faust created DC Nation short, Super Best Friends Forever, you’re in luck. Although we won’t be seeing any more animated shorts (at least anytime soon), DC has made the wise decision to create a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive statue set. USA Today has the rest of the DC con exclusives but we have tunnel vision right now. Take our money. Take it now. The three together will run $49.95 and of course, you’ll have to physically be at SDCC or know someone going to get one. http://bit.ly/11mZ0Zz

Robyn Chapman’s Drawing Comics Lab is a distillation of the Abel/Madden textbooks, something she cops to right upfront…The book is as much a distillation of Brunetti and Barry as it is Abel & Madden, but it’s a much breezier and simpler read than those other texts…The chapters on materials are a perfect crash course for an aspiring artist….Overall, Drawing Comics Lab creates a unique balance between theory, practice and readability. http://bit.ly/10UBayt

Viviane Schwarz’s Welcome to Your Awesome Robot is part comic and part activity book. It takes as its initial premise that belief, long-accepted by all parents as a universal truth, that there’s nothing that will stimulate the imagination of a small child more than a large, empty cardboard box! http://bit.ly/10UB8GP

Honeydew and Magic follows the story of a girl named Sprout - She doesn’t know too much about her past, though one thing she does know is that she was human until a tree spirit named Treesun came along, who lives in her head. You’ll get to meet Terra and Goji, two other folks she lives with and see their adventures in the strange world they inhabit. Oh, I should also mention that they live in a magic shop selling all kinds of different magic teas. Some of which are explosive.  http://kck.st/10Kyp3J
17-year-old Kylie Larkin recently held a book-signing event for her graphic novel, “Midnight High,” which she started working on at age 15…Larkin has Asperger’s syndrome, which typically manifests in a strong focus on certain things, high intelligence, and difficulty with social interactions… [Teacher] Christalyn Brooks, founder of M.A.D. Studio Public Art & Gallery [says,] “…these characters became her mouthpiece to express and connect with others.” http://bit.ly/178FFP9

Camilla d’Errico is a highly skilled and impressively imaginative artist. Freely exploring multiple mediums with multiple media, among her many in-progress projects is illustrating the core thread to the DRAWN project, currently taking over the pages of Heavy Metal. http://bit.ly/ZlBDQ2

Best Shots Rapid Reviews: BATGIRL #20- “A new Ventriloquist is pulling strings in Gotham City, making life even harder for Batgirl as a new story arc begins with great promise…Gail Simone nails this one with a brief, chilling origin and a set-up that makes perfect sense for her debut…the new Ventriloquist is positively chilling, almost Joker-like in posture, coloring, and potential menace.” http://bit.ly/19dCkg4

Gutters - Issue #419 by Amy Mebberson and Jill Pantozzi - I want to acknowledge what a great page it is, brilliantly illustrated and wonderfully scripted by two very talented women. I want to talk about inequalities in the industry and have an intelligent dialog and discussion about the issues that today’s page brings up…But here’s the thing: The page, it’s creators and KAPOW don’t need me to say anything. They say it all themselves, loud and proud. http://bit.ly/16WNQxa

Whores of Mensa #2: This anthology is presented by Jeremy Dennis, Mardou and Ellen Lindner. The theme of this issue seems to be a sexual exploration of “east meets west”, many of them period stories….When reading an anthology, I often think about if I’ve read this kind of story a million times before, because such stories tend to fade from my memory moments after I’ve read them. With this comic, I’m happy to say that this isn’t the case, and that it even rewards multiple readings. http://bit.ly/19dCkgd

A,A’, a small and flawless jewel of science fiction by Moto Hagio…Because of A,A’, I discovered that this art form could do more than I’d imagined—not just tell ambitious stories…but tell them with passion, in lines drawn from nerve endings, using every weapon in the artist’s arsenal to not just dazzle the mind, but stab straight to the heart… A, A’ is really about identity in all its forms: sexual identity, gender identity, cloning, lost memories, blocked emotions…. http://bit.ly/18h9v3u
