Interviewsy Bits

  • Karrie Fransman interviews herself about her new graphic novel The House That Groaned, about the lonely, broken lives of the people who live in apartments inside an old Victorian house. Watch the trailer for it here (kinda NSFW):

  • MTV Geek talks to Jan Duursema and John Ostrander about Dawn of the Jedi.
  • Becky Cloonan talks about her acclaimed minicomic Wolves, its follow-up Orcs, and of course, Conan the Barbarian.
  • Jessica Abel and Matt Madden talk about moving to France and their upcoming projects (including Abel’s return to drawing her own stories with the GN Trish Trash: Rollergirl of Mars!)
  • Marjorie Liu answers reader questions about Astonishing X-Men.
  • Bryan and Mary Talbot discuss the Joycean graphic novel/memoir written by Mary and drawn by Bryan (Video).
  • Multiversity Comics checks in with Joelle Jones and Kelly Sue DeConnick
  • Camilla d’Errico discusses the forthcoming Boom Studios collection and continuation of her self-published series Tanpopo.
  • Christina Weir, Jackie Lewis, and Nunzio DeFilippis talk about their new graphic novel Play Ball!  It did not shock me one bit to learn that Weir is a fellow Bostonian, and therefore a Red Sox fan (it is one of the requirements to live here).
  • Denise Mina comments briefly on the challenges and rewards of writing comics as opposed to prose. (Video)
Coming April 2012:

From the acclaimed writing team of Nunzio DeFilippis and Christina Weir (The Avalon Chronicles, Amazing Agent Luna) and drawn by newcomer Jackie Lewis, Play Ball is an inspiring coming-of-age sports story that will appeal to dreamers of all ages. Dashiell Brody is a teenaged girl who has grown up loving America’s national pastime, baseball.
Dashiell has recently moved with her mother and sister to a new town, and that means a new school and new opportunities. Rather than get stuck playing on the girl’s softball team, Dashiell wants to play for the school’s championship baseball team—only the boys aren’t quite ready for this speedy shortstop. When Dashiell tries out for the main team, there is resistance, but she sticks to her guns and earns a chance to prove herself on the field….
