Shelli Paroline (born September 30, 1983) is an American cartoonist, best known for her work on the Adventure Time tie-in comics.

Paroline attended Massachusetts College of Art and Design, earning her BFA in Studio for Interrelated Media in 2006. The same year, she co-founded the Boston Comics Roundtable, a collective for comics creators to socialize, find collaborators, and discuss projects. She has contributed to their Inbound anthology and helped to organize MICE, the Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo.

At Boom Studios, she has worked on such properties as Muppet Snow White and Ice Age. In 2012, Boom announced that she (along with husband and collaborator Braden Lamb) would be on art duties for the newly-licensed Adventure Time. The series was a great success, and at San Diego Comic-Con 2013 Paroline won an Eisner Award when it was awarded “Best Publication for Young Readers”.

Her independent work includes “The Trouble Is”, “The Potter’s Pet”, “Higher Ground”, and a Star Wars fan minicomic trilogy. She also drew Tricky Fox Tales for Graphic Universe.

For my first post-SDCC post, it seems appropriate to celebrate a newly-minted Eisner-winner! And she’ll be at Boston Comic Con next weekend!

Eye of the Majestic Creature Vol. 2 by Leslie Stein

LARRYBEAR HAS MOVED TO THE CITY IN NEW VOLUME

Eye of the Majestic Creature Vol. 2 is the second book collecting Leslie Stein’s loose, funny and charming autobiographical narratives that combine idiosyncratic fantasy and stark reality. Larrybear, our hero, has moved from the countryside to the city, where she finds work as a shop girl. Quotes from Theodore Dreiser’s Sister Carrie are sprinkled throughout the story to add humor and poignancy. Stein then takes us back to a childhood in the ’80s filled with odd experiences including joining a rock band with older people, sitting in on her mother’s AA groups, and the mystery of the disappearing gumballs. Finally, a fun story in which Larrybear and her new friend, Poppin the Flower go on a strange trip to see his father. Let us not forget that Marshmallow, Ping-Ping and Mimolette, Larry’s walking and talking instruments, have adventures all their own.

Stein’s gorgeous cartooning, highlighted by incredibly detailed stippling, and her dry sense of humor combine to make one of the most unique and immersive narrative experiences in comics.

Market Monday and Announcement

Henceforth, I will be switching permanently to the “one-shot” format of Market Monday, primarily because my work days are not getting any shorter, and this takes a whole bunch of time to do individually, especially now that Tumblr changed their posting interface. This change also means that it will no longer be an exhaustive posting of every single book that I can ascertain has female talent on it each week, but will hopefully still hit an eclectic mix of comics from a variety of publishers; I also still intend to make an effort to highlight important supporting talent like colorists, inkers, and cover artists.

I will also be spending more time on producing posts of more substantive content throughout the week, rather than get burnt out on blogging on Mondays and feel like I’m letting you all down. Of course, I continue to curate news, reviews, and the like on Pinterest and Scoop.it (which you can also follow if you like the LMC Facebook page!)

Now, on to this week’s releases! Complete list available at Previews World.
