readinglist32 asked: What about Superman and other big titles? Have they been illustrated by women? Spider-man? I am genuinely curious. Is Batman the last big name superhero to finally be illustrated by a woman or the first?
Well, to be fair, this is the first time that a woman has pencilled the Batman title proper. A woman may have pencilled some other Bat-title, but none of the women I’m thinking of off the top of my head seem to have done so. But you’ve got my wheels turning, so I’m going to start something here.
I’m going to list the “major” characters (fairly subjective, but hopefully not too controversial), and then I’m going to list the women artists who have drawn at least one full issue of an ongoing title, of which the character name* is part or all of the title.** And I encourage everyone to either reblog and add the artists you know, or drop me an ask and I’ll edit this post. **Exceptions: Action Comics, Detective Comics, and Sensation Comics count as Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman titles; Early Marvel titles (e.g. Strange Tales, Tales to Astonish etc.), are counted as full books for which ever two characters shared them.
***Includes such titles as X-Factor and New Mutants

Colleen Doran has also worked on New Teen Titans and The Legion in the 80’s. She also did a satellite era JLA story for a DC Christmas Special. She also contributed a very beautiful story to a Wonder Woman annual, but I forget which one.
