bravenazar asked: Holy wow, I just read that That's Entertainment was your first comics shop?? That's awesome! I was in Worcester briefly for school, and one of the things I miss most is definitely That's E. :D But really could you and this blog be any more magical? I contend that they could not.
My blushes!
And yeah, I went to high school in Worcester (the same school as Christos Gage! but not at the same time). That’s E is a pretty intimidating store for a newbie, especially a girl (though they have two ladies working there now!), but I was determined to get into comics and learn to navigate the store.
Aside from comics, I have made so many great finds there, including the Baring-Gould Annotated Sherlock Holmes, a nurse romance paperback from 1960 attributed to “Rosie M. Banks” (which if you’ve read the works of P.G. Wodehouse, you can understand why I was thrilled to discover it), and an old Lord of the Rings box set that had various heraldry on it *_* Not to mention, that’s where I met my first pro comics creator— none other than Becky Cloonan!
As much as I love my current LCS (Comicopia!) I miss That’s E inasmuch as it’s basically a permanent convention in terms of the sort of treasures they have in stock. Not to mention, the mannequin of Death whose belt is signed by Neil Gaiman chilling on top of the shelves behind the counter!
