I’m getting scolded again. Look, I know that there are far more comics than Diamond puts out. I’ve heard many a local, self-published creator friends mourning that Diamond dropped them. And so, I suppose I’ve been a bit lax by omitting Haven Distributors’ publishers, which distribute the very small press and indie books that Diamond won’t.
The tricky thing is that Haven doesn’t do street dates— the minute a book arrives in their warehouse, it’s available. The other tricky thing is that plenty of small press companies are distributed by both Diamond and Haven and I need to weed out which ones. And near as I can tell, in the past 30 days Haven hasn’t received any books that Diamond doesn’t distribute. So, Internauts, I turn to you for advice. How should I handle the irregular but important tiny press?
In case you didn’t notice, I included covers-only ladytalent (BECAUSE YOU DEMANDED IT!) and I intend to do so from hereon out.
Also, Marvel’s new website is impossible to use, so I’m primarily using their Comixology listings for now. Comixology is pretty good, though inaccuracies do slip through (especially since I like to post these before Diamond officially puts out the weekly lists). So any time a book has been listed for an earlier week, I will go back and edit the timestamp and “week of” tag. They will not show up on your dashboard stream, but if you check the actual page, you’ll see them in their proper place.
Also, looking forward to the end of the month, I’m keeping track of individual women, breakdown by publisher, and breakdown by creative role, all of which will be displayed in nice bar graphs :D I’ll explain the nitty-gritty of my methodology when I post them.
This week DC announced a new title - with a difference. Boys, stay away from this one - it’s for girls only. Hot on the heels of Marvel’s “Year of Women” specials, which included titles such as the mini-series Her-Oes , DC is getting ready to launch the girl-friendly Capes and Cakes.
At first I was like:
But then I was like:
THAT’S IT! DC, I know this was a joke started by our B’ox of Long, but I WANT THIS NOW. You will start a series where Barda opens a bakery, and make Lex Luthor her arch-nemesis! And we will finally learn why he stole those forty cakes (that’s as many as four tens! And that is terrible.)
I mean, honestly, DC, that’s been a mystery in DC’s canon for some time now and you’ve never addressed it. I think it’s time. (BECAUSE WE ASKED FOR IT!)
